Last Thursday night, we went to a special screening of "Frozen River" at the Arc Light Cinemas in Hollywood as part of the AFI Awards Selections. Following the film was a Q&A with a film critic and the 2 main actresses, Melissa Leo and Misty Upham. The film was heart wrenching, sympathetic of human feelings, and so real. The story takes place in Masenna (NY), Montreal and the Saint Laurent River. Both stars become involved in smuggling of Chinese & Pakistanis into the U.S. They make several runs until they get caught at the end.
We see what drives them both to get involved in such a controversial topic; survival of the fittest. The story & the actors are so compelling that I think it's Oscar-worthy. The screenwriter & Ms. Leo both received nominations. Misty acts & works at a laundromat in Culver City, CA. If you want your jaw to drop and or cry, then watch it!
